To cross one’s fingers is a gesture commonly used as a well wish for good luck.
Designer Ryu Hayama hails from central Tokyo, where he initially studied mechanical engineering at Waseda University. However, upon completing his studies, Hayama discovered he no longer wished to build planes. It was fashion which stirred him the most, inspiring him to pursue a design career in New York City.
Hayama began his foundations in menswear design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He refined his patternmaking and design skills while working for Indigo People, Cloak and Ralph Lauren before establishing Fingers Crossed.
The craftsmanship found in Fingers Crossed is impeccable; Hayama approaches his work seeking the perfect union of form and function. His silhouettes are subtly striking, shaped by the same precision used to construct an aircraft.
